Changes since Git for Windows v2.55.0(4) (August 11th 2026) Following the [MSYS2 project](https://www.msys2.org/news/#2026-02-28-dropping-support-for-windows-81), on which Git for Windows is based, Windows 8.1 support will be dropped after Git for Windows v2.55. ### New Features * Comes with the MSYS2 runtime (Git for Windows flavor) based on [Cygwin v3.6.10](https://inbox.sourceware.org/cygwin-announce/f9d2b89b-c99c-4d02-b0cf-61adea84566b@dronecode.org.uk/). * Comes with [OpenSSH v10.5.P1](https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/releases/tag/V_10_5_P1). ### Bug Fixes * The long-standing [bug](https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues/5303) where Git Bash's screen was cleared after `git.exe` called `vim` (e.g. to edit a commit message) [was fixed](https://github.com/git-for-windows/msys2-runtime/pull/131). * The Bash executables in the 64-bit and ARM64 distributions no longer carry an invalid Authenticode signature.
